On June 10th, I sent the following email quesiton to Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Levelling Up: "When are you going to level up Tilbury town, which is classified by the government and the council as one of the deprived areas of Thurrock? Are you going to address the failure of the council which in my opinion is not fit for purpose and should be replaced."

On July 6th, I received this rpely from Ian MacNab: "Thank you for your email of 10 June to Michael Gove, Secretary of State, which has been passed to me for reply.

The government recognises the issues at Thurrock Council that you allude to and as you are probably aware the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has placed the Council in ‘intervention’ meaning its affairs are closely managed by appointed commissioners from Essex County Council. There have also been changes at senior levels within the Council, including the positions of Leader of the Council and Chief Executive Officer. We expect to see a demonstrable change in the overall performance of the Council.

With regard to interventions to help residents, particularly young people, in Tilbury, Thurrock has been awarded £22.8m to deliver a number of projects under the Tilbury Town Deal (and also £19.9m for a similar deal in Grays). If you wish to find out more about the Tilbury Town Deal it does have its own website."
